Heathrow's 'Holideck' Oasis

Much fanfare is made by the airlines regarding the joys of airport lounges, joys that
are ever more desirable in the face of delays. So, what is a traveler sans lounge membership, business or first-class ticket to do? At London's Heathrow Airport there's a place in Terminal 4 that for a few pounds rivals the best airport lounges worldwide. It's called Holideck.
What Is Holideck?
Holideck is KLM Ground Service's vision for the future of airport lounges, aimed at providing first-rate facilities for business and leisure passengers at an affordable price. The cost is £18.00 ($29) for adults and £7 ($11) per child under 12, there's no charge for children under two. Located in terminal 4, next to gate 17, Holideck is equipped with all the comforts required for passengers to make the time spent there most comfortable before boarding the flight. For disabled travelers, Holideck also offers easy access for with specially designed bathrooms and large elevators.
Holideck contains three floors ("decks") of entertainment, fun and stress free relaxation. Amenities include: inclusive tea, coffee, cappuccino, espresso, soft drinks, alcoholic drinks (except champagne), cold snacks, a wide range of newspapers and magazines, television programming, and high-speed Internet access.
The Main deck offers a business area with regular and wireless Internet access, along with fax and phone connections. Bar Vela offers a variety of cocktails while you watch the daily news or other event. There is also a quiet room with lounge chairs to relax. For fun, there's the adults-only Interactive Zone equipped with flight simulator, PlayStation 2 games, and a hi-tech music zone with a music system that allows you to download today's hottest hits onto specially designed hand-held devices. Lastly, there's the Family Lounge that offers play areas, children's videos, and interactive games.
Prefer more lively surroundings? The Upper Deck has a sports lounge where you can sit a vast bar and catch a sporting event on a large wide screen television. Don't like what's on? There's an area where you can have your own personal flat screen television and watch what you wish. In addition, there's Haven 2, a relaxing area to read or just mellow out. And, there's a self-contained smoking room.
Like to watch the planes land and take off? The Flight Deck offers a panoramic view of Heathrow's runways in action. There are even real-time air traffic control radar screens and you can listen to live air traffic control communications.
