(Click for more photos)
Last week, the Russian government chartered Silversea's Silver Whisper for use during celebrations of St. Petersburg's 300th anniversary. A summit of Commonwealth of Independent States leaders took place aboard the vessel, which was moored at the English Embankment on the Neva River. Russian President Vladimir Putin personally authorized the charter of the luxurious Silver Whisper to be used for the festivities in the historic Russian city. During the three days of tricentennial celebrations, Whisper hosted 46 Presidents and Prime Ministers of different countries; plus another 46 official country delegations represented by Ministers and/or Ambassadors. In fact, the meeting onboard Silver Whisper was the biggest meeting of world leaders since World War II.

St. Petersburg was founded 300 years ago when Peter the Great laid the cornerstone of the Peter and Paul Fortress. Originally built as a seaport, the city is often regarded as Russia's 'window on Europe' since it is a renowned cultural center. From 1710-1918, St. Petersburg was the capitol of Russia; however, when the Bolsheviks came to power in 1919 Moscow became the capital once again.
