American Airlines announced an alliance (and miles) with Carnival last fall, but I found out after I had already booked and paid for my cruise. Is there any way I can get credit for the partnership miles?

I contacted AAdvantage Miles and found out in order to receive miles for cruising you must book the cruise through their AAdvantage Cruise program. You can visit their website at http://www.aadvantagecruise.com.
This type of mileage promotion can be misleading since we commonly receive miles for patronizing certain hotels, car companies, airlines, etc. However, when it comes to getting miles for big ticket vacation items such as cruises and vacation packages, more often than not, airlines have stipulations that you must book through their preferred supplier.
Your options are to cancel your current cruise and try re-booking it through the AAdvantage Cruise program. However, I would heavily research the prices before jumping ship, so to speak. You may not get the best price through the airline/cruise programs.
I hope I've been helpful. Bon Voyage!
