Cruise Attire

Dear Anita,

My wife and I are booked on the Oceana Regatta cruise July 19th from Dover to Stockholm via St Petersburg. Dress suggestion says casually elegant for dinner. This seems a stretch--your interpretation? Also although there is no mention of formal dress--do you think a Tux for me and evening dress or formal wear for my Lady is too much for this cruise? Thanks for your help.

Dear Charles,

What a wonderful cruise you have planned. Oceania Cruises (like the former Renaissance Cruises) is going for a more relaxed atmosphere. In my honest opinion, tuxedos and long gowns aren't necessary on this cruise; unless, you both like dressing up. For men, one dark suit along with several dress shirts and ties should cover the formal evenings just fine. For informal evenings a nice polo shirt and khakis are perfect. For women, elegant dresses that can be worn alone or dressed up with scarves or beaded jackets are perfect for formal nights. And, for informal evenings sun dresses, skirt or pants (capris) with a blouse is an excellent choice. Thank goodness cruising has become less regimented. For more on what to pack for a cruise read my article Cruise Ahead With Smart Packing. I hope I've been helpful. Bon Voyage!
