Bye, Bye American Airlines Pie
"I did a little math regarding the third-quarter American Airlines losses just to put things in perspective.
- Loss for the third-quarter was $924,000,000.00
- Loss per day $10,043,478.26
- Loss per hour $418,478.26
- Loss per minute $6,974.64
- Loss per second $116.21
Putting the losses in perspective for the average Joe:
- While you waited for your flight (average time at the airport 90 minutes), American Airlines lost $627,717.39.
- As you wait for your luggage (average wait time of 20 minutes), American Airlines lost $139,492.75.
- While you watched a movie (average movie of 105 minutes, not counting the preview and the goofy sitcom), American Airlines lost $732,336.94.
I would have figured out the amounts lost during meal services, but since American Airlines rarely serves meals I didn't waste my time."

Dear B. Cohen -
Priceless analogy!
