Surfers Wipeout With Airlines
"Continental Airlines won't let me ship my surfboard to Costa Rica! They said they are embargoing surfboards on
certain flights!."
- H. Rizzo Palm City, Florida
Dear H. Rizzo -
Dude, it's not easy being cool. Unfortunately, several airlines will embargo surfboards and other large sports equipment at certain times of year - particularly around the busy holiday travel season. Your success in shipping a surfboard depends upon the airline, type of plane, and your destination. Always call ahead to make sure there isn't an embargo when you plan to fly. Also, another option to consider is shipping via one of the big freight companies such as FedEx and UPS. Often their prices aren't much higher than the airlines. Plus, the best part is you don't have to lug your board around the airport, it's delivered to your door.
Hang ten!
